In this paper, you will discuss master’s level competencies described by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and Quality, Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN). Additionally, you will explore factors in nursing and healthcare that necessitate achievement of these competencies, the evidence that supports it, and how they relate to your education and career path. The paper should include 7-9 pages of content (excluding title page and reference list), at least 6 references*, including at least one non-nursing reference, and address all of the following criteria. *Scholarly literature (including scholarly, peer reviewed, articles, white papers, and scholarly websites) integrated within the Master’s Competencies paper should come from the most current nursing or related literature (published no more than 5 years ago); however, older works may be included if it is a seminal source or where there is a gap in the literature. Competencies (approximately 2 pages) 25% Select 1 competency from both of these organizations: AACN and QSEN (a total of 2). These competencies will form the basis of your paper. Each area needs to have supporting literature. • Discuss the Selected Competencies o Define the key terms and concepts related to the competencies. o Identify a theoretical basis for each competency (if applicable). 1. Factors Shaping Competencies (approximately 2 pages) 30% Discuss the role of nursing and healthcare in shaping these competencies. Each area needs to have supporting literature. • Nursing’s Role o Describe nursing’s role in the achievement of this competency. o Discuss how the competencies address nursing’s professional value and standards. o Address how master’s level nurses function as a member of the interprofessional team in the achievement of this competency. • Healthcare Environment o Describe how the current healthcare environment influences the achievement of this competency. 1. Application of Competencies (approximately 2 pages) 25% In this portion of the paper you should relate the chosen competencies to your own career trajectory. o Discuss how you plan to achieve the knowledge and skills necessary during your graduate studies to master each of these competencies. o Relate these competencies to the concepts of scholarship, the spirit of inquiry, and the commitment to lifelong learning.
